Onboarding for New Employees - At West Virginia University Hospitals, we believe that Onboarding is a process, not just an event. Our intent is to support each new employee with just in time learning, the tools that they need to be successful, and quicker engagement in a culture that makes our patients are the first priority in NEO Stareverything that we do.

Being a new employee can be overwhelming at times, but with the carefully organized New Employee Website, employees can find answers to their most pressing questions.

Our New Employee Onboarding Schedule will help our new employees and their supervisors plan for their attendance at both required New Employee Onboarding (NEO) events. The first day is a full day of essential presentations and interactive learning designed to help the new employee get properly acclimated into our hospital. The majority of the learning is designed around the requirements of The Joint Commission. The employee will also complete much of the required paperwork involved with joining our organization.

NEO Take 2, is a short required session that occurs about 30 days from their first day of employment. NEO Take 2 brings the new employee back into the onboarding process and ensures that all required steps have been taken to set the employee up for success. We want all of their questions to be answered, ensure that HR forms are complete and most importantly, introduce them to the West Virginia University Hospitals STAR Behaviors. Employees occupying positions that are union affiliated will also have an opportunity to meet with their union representatives.

After an employee completes the initial onboarding process, they are returned for the NEO Take 2 process which provides new employees a chance to discuss their onboarding experience and learn about our STAR behaviors. It is important for new employees to take this opportunity to meet with our staff. Please review the NEO Take 2 Schedule, which is a part of the New Employee Onboarding schedule, to make sure your employees are available to attend.

Toolkits - We want everyone to be successful in their position at West Virginia University Hospitals. We encourage departments and staff to customize these toolkits to fit their departmental and personal needs. If you come up with a new tool, or resource that you think might be helpful to others, feel free to share! These toolkits may be accessed under the tab to the left titled "Toolkits."
